Work-Based Learning

Options For Learing (OFR)

Youth can acquire knowledge, skills, abilities and habits in a specific occupation by connecting classroom to on-the-job learning.  Students are mentored by experienced workers in a position of responsiblity to ensure that the youth are supervised in a planned program of study.  Through this kind of interaction you can gain valuable basic workplace knowledge and experiences in an occupation, giving you the opportunity to test the waters to see if this is the right fit for you.

Types of Work-Based Learning

Apprenticeship

A combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction providing practical work experience.

Internships and Job Shadowing

Through a collaboration between the County Office of Education and Santa Cruz County Human Services Department the Youth Employment Program (YEP) offers mentoring, paid internships, and job shadowing for to create an individualized program plan for each referred youth.  Students spend time in a business or industry setting to gain knowledge and understanding in this direct experience.

Volunteer Options

Community service combined with academic learning and civic responsiblity.
